A Legacy of Excellence
Founded in the late 1950s by the esteemed Eng. Epaminonda Ceccarelli (1925-2011), CYD has a history steeped in passion and innovation. Epaminonda, a visionary industrial engineer, designed over 1,000 yachts, many of which still sail today. His impact extended beyond yacht design to residential architecture and even fine jewelry. His pioneering spirit led to the development of Italy’s first fiberglass boat, the Classis 26, setting new industry standards.
Today, under the leadership of Eng. Giovanni Ceccarelli, the firm continues to evolve while maintaining its dedication to excellence. Giovanni took the helm in the 1990s, further cementing CYD’s reputation as an industry leader. With expertise spanning from IOR racing boats to mass-produced power yachts, CYD has carved a niche in both the custom and production yacht markets.

CYD specializes in naval architecture, exterior and interior yacht design, engineering, and consulting services. With cutting-edge tools like 3D parametric modeling, FEM and CFD calculations, the team combines technological advancements with an artisanal touch. However, every project begins with a hand-drawn sketch – a hallmark of Ceccarelli’s design philosophy – often crafted in collaboration with the client to bring their vision to life.
This balance between tradition and innovation has led CYD to win numerous industry awards, including three Best Designer Awards in Italy and the prestigious Boat of the Year Award at the Genoa Boat Show in 2010 for the Azuree 33, built by Sirena Marine.
America’s Cup & Racing Heritage
With a deep-rooted passion for sailing, Giovanni Ceccarelli has played a pivotal role in the America’s Cup, serving as the Principal Designer for two campaigns:
- 2003 Mascalzone Latino Team
- 2007 +39 Challenge Team in Valencia
In addition to America’s Cup campaigns, CYD-designed boats have dominated competitive sailing, winning eight world championships in IOR and ILC rules, multiple Italian championships, and the 2010 European Championship in St. Petersburg, Russia.
